How long will the repair take?

A) Your advisor can give you an estimate of the time it will take to complete the repairs to your vehicle.

How will I know when my car is done?

A) You will be notified by phone when your car is ready for pick-up. You may email or call your advisor if you have any questions or concerns during the repair process.

What is the best procedure for me to get quality repairs and get my vehicle back on the road as soon as possible?

A) Take or have your vehicle towed to a reputable shop and leave it with the manager, along with your insurance information. Instruct the manager to contact the insurance company and advise them of the damage. You should then call your insurance company, advising the location of the vehicle and providing them with any additional information they may need to process your claim.

Is there a charge for a repair estimate?

We do not charge for drive-in estimates.

Who pays for the repair of my vehicle?

A) If the damage to your vehicle is a result of your error and you have comprehensive and/or collision damage, then your insurance company pays for the repairs (less your policy's deductible). You are responsible for paying the deductible amount directly to the repair facility. If the damage to your vehicle is a result of the error or negligence of someone else, then their insurance company is responsible for paying the full amount of the repair costs.

Can you save my deductible?

A) Unfortunately, no. And, further, no honest repair shop will ever agree to this request. Burying the deductible amounts to insurance fraud and is illegal. Thus, conspiring to do so would subject both the shop and the vehicle owner to criminal charges. Insurance appraisers are very much aware of necessary costs to repair and they are careful not to overpay. Therefore, the only source of extra money to be found in an insurance claim is for the shop to take short cuts and/or use inferior parts, compromising the quality and, possibly, the safety of the vehicle. A body shop that is willing to cheat the insurance company will cheat the customer.

What if my car is not drivable?

A) If your car is unsafe or illegal to drive because of collision damage, your insurance company will normally cover the cost to tow it to the shop of your choice, within a reasonable distance. We will arrange for your vehicle to be towed by a responsible and professional towing company to insure that care is taken to protect your vehicle against additional damage. The cost of having the vehicle towed will be added to the repair bill. If you are unsure whether you should drive the car, please give us a call at 317-896-9358 and we will be happy to advise you.

Will you help me arrange a rental car?

A) If you need a rental car, we can help you make the necessary arrangements. Your insurance company will only pay toward your rental reimbursement if you carry the optional coverage on your policy. Check your policy or call your agent if you are unsure if you have this coverage or if you don't know the specific limitations. We generally recommend carrying rental reimbursement coverage, unless you have another vehicle available for use.

My insurance company told me that I must use one of their preferred shops for repair in order for them to guarantee the work.

A) This is an attempt by the insurance representative to steer you away from a repair facility that does not participate in their direct repair program. Generally speaking, the repair shop is responsible for the quality and safety of the repair. Some insurance companies require their direct repair shops to observe practices which may not adhere to industry standards. Harvey’s does not participate in all of these programs. We choose to be responsible to the customer first, then the insurance company. For our customers' peace of mind, Harvey’s Collision Center provides a Lifetime Warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. More importantly, we have been setting the standard for quality repairs since 1970.

Will the paint match?

A) We maintain a modern computerized system which provides mixing formulas for every color of every auto manufacturer. Your satisfaction with the color match is guaranteed.

Am I required to get three estimates for insurance purposes?

A) Generally, no. Unless your policy states otherwise, you are not required to obtain more than one estimate. Further, you have the right to have your vehicle repaired at the shop of your choice.

I have a collision repair insurance estimate, but I would like to get another estimate to see if they missed anything.

A) Some insurance companies insist on writing their own estimate or contracting with a third-party appraiser to write it for them. This estimate becomes the estimate of record. Simply provide us with a copy of the estimate at the time you drop off the vehicle for repair. If additional repairs are necessary that are not provided for, we will work directly with the insurance company to cover those repairs.

What forms of payment do you accept?

A) We accept insurance company checks, personal checks drawn on local banks, debit cards and, for deductibles and self-pay repairs; we gladly accept Visa, MasterCard, and Discover credit cards.

What is a deductible and how is it paid?

A) The deductible is the dollar amount of damage for which the vehicle owner is responsible before the insurance company pays anything toward a collision or comprehensive claim. The amount of the deductible is stated in your policy and, if it applies, would be paid to the repair facility as part of the cost to repair.

When can I wash/wax my car after it has had paint work?

A) You may wash your vehicle immediately using cool clean water, mild detergent, and a soft cloth in the shade. Refrain from waxing for at least 90 days.

Do I need an appointment for acollision repair estimate?

A) Appointments are recommended but not required. Generally, the wait time for an estimate will be less with an appointment since estimates by appointment are given top priority. Please allow 15-30 minutes, depending on the extent and nature of the damage.

What are betterment charges?

A) Parts that wear out and need replacement with time and use (i.e. tires, batteries, and suspension parts) are commonly subject to betterment charges when they must be replaced during the repair process. These betterment charges are determined by your insurance company and are pro-rated based on the use you have already received from the part.
